The neighborhood is named for the Tower Theatre on Olive Avenue, a Streamline Moderne building by S. Charles Lee that opened on December 15, 1939. Its tower was inspired by the Star Pylon at the New York World’s Fair that same year, and it reopened as a performing arts center in 1990.
